Place your carry-on travel bag on the bed, open it. Estimate the holding capacity in days (PD for mathematical calculations – packing days), clothing folded and compressed. Proceed to the laundry room. Estimate the capacity of the bin of your washing machine in days; based on the size of the travel bag on your bed – stuffed full. Two days for my carry-on. Mathematically WMV (Washing Machine Volume).
If your journey provides a washing machine(s) along your route (WME, washing machine encounters), the clothing being lugged in your travel bag can be reduced. Mathematically this travel equation is
Days Gone/ (WMV+WME) = PD
For example: Your eight-day stay in St. Bart’s includes washing machine access on two days. All mandatory travel wear for dinner each evening, the beach each day has a minimum useful life of eight days.
The calculation;
8 Days gone/ (WMV of 2 + WME of 2) = 2 PD (pack for 2 days).
